Light-Curing Units
Light-curing units are handheld chairside devices that emit high-intensity blue light to polymerize light-cure composite resins, bonding agents, and cements during direct restorative and cementation procedures. LED curing lights are now standard, offering higher output and longer bulb life than older halogen units, with curing time and depth depending on light intensity, wavelength range, and distance from the restoration. Adequate cure is essential for restoration strength, color stability, and biocompatibility, since undercured composite can lead to increased wear, staining, and postoperative sensitivity — making the curing light a routine instrument in nearly every restorative procedure.
