Sandblasting Media

Sandblasting media are the abrasive particles — most commonly aluminum oxide of varying grit sizes, or glass beads — used within sandblasting units to clean, roughen, or polish dental restoration and model surfaces. Media particle size and material affect the aggressiveness and finish of treatment, with coarser aluminum oxide used for cleaning and heavy surface roughening, and finer or glass bead media used for gentler cleaning or matte finishing without excessive substrate removal. Correct media selection protects delicate restoration surfaces while still achieving the surface texture needed for reliable adhesive or ceramic bonding.
